Petition #21385254

Abstract

W. H. Harrington and J. H. Harrington, administrators of the estate of Y. J. Harrington, seek the court's assistance in settling his estate; the intestate died in 1850. The petitioners report that they have "sold the estate of said intestate except a family of negroes." They assert that Y. J. Harrington purchased said slaves with the "intention of giving them to his grandson J. B. Harrington." They further reveal that sixteen-year-old John B. Harrington is currently living in France with his mother and does not have a "guardian or person to take charge of his estate." The administrators assert that these slaves are unproductive and that it would be in the interest of John to sell them. As they are "anxious to settle said estate," the petitioners request the court's assistance in this matter. They also ask that a guardian be appointed for John so that he may decide what to do with the slaves. The court orders the petitioners to amend their petition and to state "whether the negroes Joe & Eliza were given by the intestate to John B Harrington as an advancement."

Result: Amended.
