J. Alison Lockwood seeks to be appointed the guardian of eight-year-old Susan M. Ville Pontoux. Lockwood reports that "the said minor is an orphan and entitled to certain property consisting of Thirteen negroes and a small sum of money, under the will of her Grandfather." In addition, Lockwood notes that Susan will receive "an undivided third part of her fathers estate ... consisting of certain lands and about thirty seven negroes." The petitioner "prays that he may be permitted to assume and exercise the Guardianship of the person and estate of the infant minor."
