Petition #21385520

Abstract

Henry H. Kinard seeks to be appointed the guardian of fourteen-year-old Henry O. Henson, "whose father and mother are both dead." Kinard informs the court that said Henry has been without a guardian since the death of his father, John K. Henson. The commissioner's report reveals that "the gross value" of the said minor's estate "exclusive of his share of his grandfathers estate is abot $1700." The report further states that Henson is entitled to 1/8 of his grandfather's $4500-estate and would receive an additional $2000 "at the death of his grandmother." The court grants guardianship to Kinard "upon his giving bond with approved sureties in the penalty of Twenty four thousand and six hundred dollars conditioned for the faithful performance of his duties as such guardian." [The petition is incomplete. The notation that Henry Henson is entitled to an estate "consisting of three negroes viz. Harriet and her child, and Sarah a girl about twelve years old" is crossed out.]
