John L. Y. Bell, the son of the late William C. Bell, requests a partition of slaves in his father's estate. Bell reports that his father died intestate leaving a considerable estate that included twenty-two slaves. He further states that the portion for Jane M. Bell, the widow, "has been set apart to her in severalty." The remainder of said estate, which is to be divided among Bell's three children, "came into the possession and remains in the hands of Henry W. Yongue," who was appointed "guardian of the persons and estates" of the three minors. Having reached an age of majority, the petitioner desires his portion of the slaves. John Bell therefore petitions the court for the partition of slaves.
