Petition #21385571

Abstract

The petitioners request the sale of land and slaves. In 1834 Jesse Wofford Sr. executed his last will and testament. Upon the death of Wofford, "all the real & personal Estate of said Deceased was bequeathed to his Widow Mary Wofford." Mary has "managed by industry and economy" to increase the estate's value to a considerable extent. Therefore, she "does not desire to keep the possession and use of the Mill Tract of Land devised to her." They also assert that Mary wishes to sell a female slave named Sarah and her three children for their benefit. The petitioners ask the court to grant them to right to sell Wofford's land and four slaves. They further request that the proceeds from the sales be equally divided among them.

Result: Granted.
