Petition #21385726

Abstract

Seventeen-year-old Jasper Little asks that his brother be appointed "Guardian to take charge of his person & estate, and to superintend his Education." Little laments "that he has neither father nor mother living," but he avers that "he is intitled to a distributive share in his fathers estate of about the value" of $1100. The petitioner further confides that he "is physically unable to take care of himself having been afflicted from his birth with disease, and is now necessarily compelled to have a nurse constantly with him." Little informs the court that "at the sale of his fathers estate the negro Girl Caroline ... the nurse of your petitioner," together with her 14-month-old child Clara, "were bought by John R Little, brother to your petitioner expressly for the benefit of your petitioner," at the price of $1000. Little avows that 23-year-old Caroline "is familliar with his habits and wants, and will infact be of more service to him than all the others of the family." He therefore prays that the court may decree "that his old nurse Caroline ... and her child Clara may be settled on your petitioner in such manner as will secure to your petitioner her value and necessary services" and that the said John Little may be appointed his guardian.
