Emma Miot requests the partition of slaves. She represents that her grandfather, William Fair, bequeathed six slaves to her and her sister, Permella Moore, a minor. Miot maintains, however, that she and her husband "reside in Charleston and can make no profitable use of any of said Slaves." She further declares that the female slave Milley "and her four children are not profitable in any way but by her increase." The petitioner therefore is "anxious to have said negroes partitioned either by assignment to each in severalty or by actual sale."
