John Rudd, guardian of the "person & estate" of Robert B. Rudd, requests the court's permission to sell a group of slaves. Daniel Rudd died in 1856, leaving a last will and testament, in which he "bequeathed to his son Robert B. Rudd" nine slaves. The petitioner asserts that the said slaves have been hired out but for "not near as much as the interest on their value." He surmises that it is "much more to the interest of the said Robert B that the said slaves should be sold," because "negroes are now selling very high." John Rudd therefore prays that the said slaves be sold and "the proceeds kept at interest for the benefit of the said Robert B. Rudd."
