Petition #21385771

Abstract

H. H. Kinard, "guardian of the person and estate" of George H. Rudd, requests the court's permission to sell several slaves. Daniel Rudd died in 1856, leaving a last will and testament, in which he bequeathed nine slaves to his son George. The petitioner states that said slaves have been hired out but for "not near as much as the interest on their appraised value." Kinard asserts that it is "much more to the interest of the said George H. Rudd that his said slaves should be sold," because "negroes are selling very high." The petitioner therefore prays that the sale of said slaves be approved.
