Petition #21385815

Abstract

The heirs of William Green and the siblings of Henry G. Green seek a partition of the slaves in the decedents' estates. After William's death, John Thompson Green took possession of his father's slaves and became the guardian of his minor siblings. The petitioners, some of whom have attained their majority, report that they have appealed to their brother to distribute the slaves that once belonged to their father and their brother, but he has refused, asserting that he will not distribute the slaves until all of William Green's heirs have reached their majority. They therefore pray "that it may please your Honors to grant to your Orators a writ of partition to make division of the said negroes." A subsequent commissioners' report reveals that the court granted the petitioners' request and divided the fifteen slaves, valued at $10,024, among the six heirs.
