Petition #21385856

Abstract

Robert and Samuel Stevenson request the division or sale of land and slaves. They assert that they are "entitled each to the one third part" of land from the estate of John Stevenson, their late father. They also submit that they are "entitled each to the one fifth part as tenants in common" of "two certain negro men named Isaac and Bob." The petitioners have "purchased from the said William Stevenson and James Stevenson their right title and interest in and to said negroes Isaac and Bob." However, their brother Andrew, "who is now a Lunatic," is entitled to one third share of lands and one fifth share of the slaves as well. Therefore, the petitioners ask that "they may be allowed to hold their shares respectively in severalty, or that the said tracts of land and negroes may be sold" and "the avails thereof divided."
