Petition #21385926

Abstract

Caroline H. Glover, "Guardian of the Estates of Wilson Glover, Caroline G. Glover and Anne Glover, minors," requests permission to sell some of the slaves, whom her wards inherited from their late father's estate. Glover informs the court that "her said Wards have no lands upon which to employ the said negro slaves in Agricultural pursuits: that the said slaves are chiefly field negroes, unacquainted with household duties and that even if they were, could not be so employed, the Wards of your Petitioner having no household." Arguing that "the hiring out of the said negro slaves would jeopardize and prejudice the interests of your Petitioner's wards," Glover asserts that "it is therefore manifestly to the interest of the said Minors ... that the said negro slaves be sold and the proceeds of such sale invested in securities which will furnish a certain income for the maintenance support and education of the said Minors." She prays that "she may be authorized by a decree of this Honorable Court to sell at public or private sale ... all or any of the negro slaves."
