Elizabeth Latta, the widow of John Latta "late of Marion County State of Florida," asks that she be appointed guardian of her minor children and that their estates be transferred to her in South Carolina. She states that her husband died "intestate, seized & possessed of a considerable real & personal estate." The petitioner relates that she and her twelve-year-old son Andrew and her ten-year-old daughter Eliza "have recently removed to this State & District to reside." She therefore "prays that she may be appointed Guardian of their persons & estates." A bill of sale for "Eight Negro Slaves" in the estate of John Latta is attached; it reveals the names of the slaves and the purchasers, as well as the amount paid for each slave.
