Petition #21386331

Abstract

Nancy Rebecca Bishop asserts that "she is entitled to an interest to the extent of one half of a Negro woman named Ann and two children named Sam and Jude." She informs the court that her mother, the late Sarah Bishop Kelly, executed a deed of trust in 1850, whereby she conveyed, "at her death," the aforesaid slaves to her two children, Nancy and James, and their respective children. The petitioner states that her brother James died in 1862, survived by his widow Sally Ann and his daughter Madora. She therefore prays that a partition of Ann and Ann's children be authorized. The commissioners' report reveals that Sally Ann Rebecca Bishop received Ann, valued at $2000; Nancy Rebecca Bishop received five-year old Sam and two-year old Jude, valued at $1935.
