He submits "that he is engaged in a ... profitable business and is making a support for himself -- that he has been and still is a preacher amongst the Colored people in this section of country." Noting "that he has a wife a slave living in said County with whom he wishes to live," Jones "prays your worships that he have permission ... to remain and reside in the said County of Shelby."
