Petition #21485807

Abstract

Sandy G. Owen asserts that his father, Everett Owen, "should of right be found by a proper inquisition to be a person of unsound mind." Owen informs the court that his sixty-five-year-old father "cannot now walk without assistance" and is "indeed physically helpless." His memory has become "at times extinct," and he is "frequently the subject of mental delusions & has not the intellect to be relieved from these delusions by any proof or reasoning presented to him however obvious." Owen assures the court that he is prepared to present the testimony of "neighbours & relations" to establish his allegation. He asks the court "to summon a jury of twelve freeholders ... to enquire & ascertain" whether his father "is a person of unsound mind." He further requests that the jury "ascertain the value" of his father's estate, which includes 240 acres of land and thirteen slaves, and that a guardian be appointed to take control of the property.
