The children of the late Francis Bracey [Bracy] Sr. seek a division of the dower slaves of Mary Bracey, "who has lately departed this life." They inform the court that "the said negroes since the decease of the said Francis Bracey senior, have had six children." They report further that the widow's dower slaves "with their increase" are in the possession of their brother, and he "positively refuses to give up any of them to your complts. pretending that he was the sole heir at Law of his father, merely because he died prior to" 1787. The petitioners contend "that as the said Mary did not die until since that period, they are entitled to an equal distribution with him." They "pray that your Worships will decree to them an equal distribution of the said slaves and their issue with the said Francis Bracey jr."
