Abstract
Nanny and her son Moses assert that they are being illegally "held in slavery by Betsey DuVal." Informing the court that they are descended from "a woman named Sukey, who was a Cherokee indian," the petitioners ask that "they may be permitted to sue for their freedom" in forma pauperis.
