William Barnes, administrator of the estate of his late wife, Rebecca Fort Barnes, seeks a division of the estate of Rebecca's grandfather, Joshua Fort, who died some years before, leaving a widow who recently passed away. Barnes charges that the executor of the widow's estate has the whole of the property in his hands, including "valuable stocks" and slaves, and "refuses to account for them in any manner whatever." Barnes asks the court to compel the executor to "discover the amount & description of the personal estate of his testatrix" so that it may be divided among the heirs who are entitled to the property in remainder.
