In 1820, William Saunderson "entered into a partnership with Anthony Rucker in his life time for the purpose of carrying on the business of sawing plank & scantling." Saunderson, who worked as Rucker's overseer, supervised the slave hands and received "one fourth part of the ammount of work done" as well as $13 per month in salary. Rucker has since died, and Saunderson is unable to collect his share of the profits. In addition, he cannot collect the salary due him as an overseer. Saunderson files suit against Jesse Richieson, administrator of the Rucker estate, and prays "that your Honor may decree to your orator the sums of money due to him."
