The petitioners state that "Peter Aldridge Departed this life many years ago intestate, leaving a widow Alice Aldridge and three children namely David, Lucretia and Stephen Aldridge." In the division of Peter's estate, Alice Aldridge received a life estate in a slave named Dolly, who now has four young children. Alice "has become very old, reduced in her circumstances, and almost unable to support herself," much less the five slaves. Further, both David and Stephen Aldridge have both died intestate. The petitioners believe that Dolly and her children "ought now to be divided among the representatives of the said Decedents." They pray that Alice Aldridge and David Aldridge's administrator, Roger Mallory, be made defendants and "that the slaves aforesaid maybe decreed to be sold & the proceeds to be divided according to Law."
