Petition #21683306

Abstract

Jeremiah Allgood died intestate in 1816, leaving three children as "distributees entitled to equal distribution of his estate"; Allgood's sons have sold their interest in said estate. The interested parties now sue the executrix of Reuben Puryear, who was the administrator of Allgood's estate. An attached case summary reveals that Reuben Puryear sold one slave in the estate to pay debts, accepting a bond posted by Allgood's widow for the other three estate slaves, who agreed to clothe, board, and educate the children if she could keep the three slaves with her and discount the "hire" of the slaves from the amount used to provide for the children. Years later, the petitioners state that they are still due nearly five hundred dollars.
