The children of James and Elizabeth Scott inform the court that their late mother's executor, Branch J. Worsham, "is desirous of delivering over at this time, the said slaves" in the Scotts' estate. James Scott died in 1805, leaving a life estate in eleven slaves to his wife during her widowhood. Upon her death or marriage, he instructed that "all the negroes & personal estate lent to my wife, should be equally divided between" his six named children. Twenty-eight years later, Elizabeth has died, and the children now request a distribution. One of the sons, William Scott, is also deceased and his share in his parents' estates should be divided among his widow and six children.
