Petition #21683723

Abstract

John James represents that, upon the death of one the heirs of the late Timothy Craghead, he purchased an interest in the estate. The said estate included a family of slaves, consisting of a grandmother named Lucy, her two daughters Rachael and Milly, and Milly's four children, Mary, Stephen, James Babcock and Bob. James charges that Craghead's widow, Polly, and her two sons, John and William, "are confederating together to defraud your orator and the others interested in the said Estate" by selling two of the said slaves to the said John and William and by trading the slave to one George Key for a tract of land "containing 100 acres more or less." The petitioner also argues that the widow refuses to settle the estate and is benefiting from the profits accrued from the use of the property.
