Edward Mason and his wife, Elizabeth Powell Mason, ask for the settlement of the estate of Seymore Powell, Elizabeth's late husband, who died intestate leaving four slaves. Noting that Thomas and Sarah Powell, the deceased's brother and sister, are also heirs, the petitioners avow that "the parties interested are desirous of effecting a division & distribution of said slaves which cannot well be effected without a sale of the same." The Masons pray that the other heirs and the administrator of the estate be made party to this suit and that the court may direct "a sale of the said slaves and distribution of the proceeds."
