Petition #21684230

Abstract

Frances Callaham informs the court that her husband, Elisha Callaham, has abandoned her and their eleven children. She claims that during their marriage Elisha "became more and more morose in his temper towards her, often resorting to acts of Violence on her person by Kicking and striking her with his fist, all of which for the sake of the children, she bore without complaint." Elisha finally abandoned his wife, taking with him "a female of disreputable character with whom he was in the habit of illicit intercourse before his departure." Frances has no means to support herself, and she is afraid that Elisha will return to sell the five slaves and other property that he left behind. Elisha's creditors have already won claims against him and levied them against a slave and cattle. Frances prays that the court will issue an injunction to prevent Elisha from selling or disposing of his property. She further prays the court to give her an allowance out of Elisha's property so that she can support herself and her children.
