Petition #21684429

Abstract

Sarah F. Taylor represents that in 1835 her father, Burton W. Taylor, was appointed her guardian. When he died in 1843, "she was then possessed of no estate but was entitled to the ... estate of her grand father," which included several slaves. Her grandfather's slaves had been delivered to her father in 1836 but after that time, Sarah had no further account of them; they remained in the hands of her father who did not account for their hires. Before it was known that Burton Taylor had left a will, his estate was given to Sheriff Thomas B. Grisham for administration; he then sold the estate's slaves and perishable property. The petitioner now fears that her inheritance from her grandfather will be improperly distributed among her father's widow, Mary, and two minor children, Mary and William. Taylor prays that her father's estate be accounted for in court and that she be awarded her rightful inheritance.
