Philip B. Winston represents that Peter Christian departed this life sometime ago, "leaving at the time of his death a widow named Patsy & twelve children." He further asserts that the said Patsy "has since intermarried with a certain Lewis S. King" and that "a division has been made of the slaves & other estate of Peter Christian according to law among the widow and children of the deceased." The petitioner informs the court that the said Lewis King became indebted to him and that the Kings "executed a conveyance" of the slaves held by the said Patsy as dower during her life to secure payment of said debt. Winston now prays that the twenty-eight slaves named in said conveyance be sold and "the proceeds of sale to be applied" to his debt.
