Richard G. Pegram, executor of the estate of Robert Fowlkes, seeks an accounting of the partnership between Fowlkes and Francis Pace. He represents that Fowlkes "was at the time of death, and had been for some years previous thereto, engaged in partnership with a certain Francis Pace of the city of Petersburg in the purchase and sale of Tobacco." Citing that there were "no written articles of partnership between them," Pegram further reports that "during the existence of the partnership between him and Francis Pace, one or more slaves ... were purchased by ... Francis Pace with a portion of the money belonging to the partnership fund and were always held and regarded by him and Robert Fowlkes as property belonging to the partnership." Noting that Fowlkes "is indebted to various individuals," the petitioner prays that Francis Pace "may be decreed by this honourable Court to come to a fair and just account and settlement with your orator, for and in respect of all and singular the property and effects belonging to the partnership."
