Leroy B. Law seeks an injunction to stay the sale of a slave named William. Law explains that S. S. Turner, a deputy sheriff, seized the said William "by virtue of an execution of fieri facias" and that the said Turner "has advertised the said slave to be sold at Franklin October Court to satisfy the said execution." He further "charges that the said slave is of peculiar value to him -- That he is unwilling to part with or sell him." Contending that "the actings & doeings of the said S. S. Turner & his confederates in the premises are contrary to equity & good conscience and tend to the injury & oppression of your orator," Law prays that "it may please your honor to enjoin John S Smith sheriff ... and all others concerned from proceeding to sell the said slave (now of the value of $300.) untill the further order of the court."
