Petition #21685717

Abstract

Mary S. Taylor, widow of George G. Taylor, seeks relief for "large family of young children." Taylor informs the court that her late husband "was a partner of one Charles Edward Taylor in the manufacture of Tobacco" at the time of his death in January 1857. She notes that prior to his death the said Taylor had purchased "the factory, and many fixtures, some of the negroes and other effects" but said purchase was rescinded, forcing him and Charles Taylor "to enter into a new partnership." Taylor informs the court that "the factory and its appurtenances" were before her husband's death and have been "so regarded since his death by all parties as the property of the Concern of C. E. and G. G. Taylor." The widow laments that "unfortunately on the night of the 9th of May 1857 the building was Consumed by Fire." Admitting that there was insurance, Taylor nonetheless is "extremely anxious" as to the "Condition of the affairs of the Concern." She therefore prays that Charles Taylor "lay before ... this Court all the Books and papers of the Concern; that a commissioner would settle the said partnership; and that the court "would authorise and Decree a sale of the property of the Concern or such other property even of the Said Taylor's estate as may be requisite and necessary."
