Joseph B. Dunn, guardian of John, Sallie, Louisa and Maria Bragg and executor of the late Dr. John Bragg, asks permission to sell the testator's property in Chesterfield County, consisting of "525 Acres more or less and supposed to worth about Five thousand Dollars and the Negroes thereon fourteen in number and worth about Ten thousand dollars." The petitioner is of the opinion that the said "property now barely yields enough to support the Servants, stock ... thereon and to keep up the buildings." Deeming "that the interest of Mrs. Bragg the widow of Dr Bragg and of his wards will be promoted by a Sale of the plantation & slaves in Chesterfield and some of the pieces in Petersburg which yield little or no revenue," Dunn prays that "your Honor would Decree a sale of the property as indicated and a proper investment of the proceeds of the Sale thereof." In his commissioner's report, Dunn reveals that "the Negroes he did not sell because of the trouble which had arisen in the Country."
