The widow and son of the late Abram Wiant seek an assignment of dower and a division of the residue in the land and slaves belonging to the estate of the said Wiant. They report that "Mr Wiant left a very handsome estate both real & personal," which included "about 1000 acres of fine land" and thirty-one slaves. The petitioners represent that "the object of this suit is to have the land & negroes above mentioned divided among the children of Mr Wiant, after allotting to Mrs Wiant her dower in the same." They note, however, that "before this division can take place, it will be necessary for those children, who have been advanced to bring their advancements into hotchpot." The petitioners therefore pray that commissioners be appointed to conduct the allotment of dower and the division of the residue.
