Petition #21686103

Abstract

Endymion D. Cornick asks permission to sell his share of the estate of his father, Henry Cornick Sr., which includes two male slaves and land. The plaintiff represents that he had executed several bonds to purchase the Princess Anne Court House Hotel, which he would like to pay off with the proceeds from the sale of his inheritance. He estimates the value of his inheritance to be sufficient to cover the bonds for the hotel and would allow him to make necessary improvements on the property. He admits that the "negro boy George is very delicate and subject to frequent attacks of very fatal diseases" but that "the boy Charles is likely strong and hardy and would bring a high price if sold." Cornick surmises that this sale will be in his best interest since he will be able to make more money renting the hotel than he would make from the land. He therefore prays that "the said lands and negroes may be decreed to be sold and the proceeds applied towards paying for said Hotel property and the improvements on the same."

Result: Dismissed.
