Petition #21686303

Abstract

The heirs of the late Sceva Thayer join other interested parties in asking that his estate be divided "amongst those entitled." They inform the court that "the late Sceva Thayer left quite a good estate which was administered" and that "at the March term 1830 of the Hustings Court of Petersburg Commissioners were appointed to assign Mrs. Mary U. Thayer her Dower in her husband's estate." They further report that she received "the family mansion," a lot, and four slaves, two of whom have since died. The petitioners point out that the said Mary is now deceased and the "entire property now owned by Sceva Thayer's heirs" consists of "the mansion lot ... worth about $4000 or $5000 ... the Negro Maria worth now about $1500 -- and Robert about $1500." Believing that "it being manifest that the said property cannot be divided in kind," the petitioners pray that the court "appoint some fit and proper person or persons to make sale of the property aforementioned for partition amongst those lawfully entitled."
