Abstract

The heirs of Bettie Nash seek to sell a twelve-year-old slave named Emily, who belongs to the estate of "their Infant sister." They inform the court that the said Bettie "departed this life under age possessed of an Estate of between $6000 & $7000." They further contend "that it will be necessary to make sale of the Girl Emily in order to Effect the division sought for." The petitioners therefore pray "that your worships would decree a sale of said Girl Emily by some fit & proper person to be appointed for the purpose."
