"To The Honourable Judge for the Circuit Court for the City of Lynchburg [--] We were appointed Trustees for the Affrican Church of this City some Years since And under the altered condition of the Negroes we are satisfyed that we can no longer hold that position acceptable to them or ourselves Under these circumstances we most respetfully do the Court to make such a Decree as will relieve us from this Responsibility [--] And we will ev pray [signed] Jas L Clayton Martin Hollins T.
