J. L. Prevost presents to the court that, in 1821, he purchased a male slave named Edouard from André Lacouture, under the condition that Edouard would be emancipated "after eight years" of service. Prevost further presents that Edouard's term of service has now "expired," and that he is "above the age of thirty years," honest, sober and "of good behaviour." Prevost therefore asks the court to allow him to emancipate Edouard "after due course of Law."
