Carmélite Laforestière, a free woman of color, presents to the court that she has recently purchased her mother named Bonne and now wishes to emancipate her. She declares that her mother, who is above the age of thirty, has "never run away or committed any crime or misdemeanor," as far as she "knows of her own personal knowledge." She therefore asks the court to order that the "necessary advertisements" be made "during the delay required by law," so that, if no opposition is made, she may be authorized to free her mother and pass unto her the act of emancipation.
