Petition #20884303

Abstract

Isabel Dominguez seeks to be separated in property from her husband, Ynocencio Bulnez y Mier. Isabel Dominguez Bulnez y Mier represents that, at the time of her 1830 marriage to Ynocencio, she possessed various pieces of household furniture. Shortly after the marriage, she received $125 from her father's estate, which her husband appropriated for his own use. Around that time, she also acquired a tract of land with additional funds inherited from her father's estate. On the 20th of November 1840, she acquired two slaves, as a donation from Mrs. Manuela M. Lorenta. Isabel now contends that, "owing to" her husband's mismanagement and "the Embarrassed state of his affairs," her separate "rights and property" are "greatly Endangered and she will sustain much damage" unless she recovers the separate administration of her affairs. She therefore prays to be separated in property from her husband and to recover administration of her property. She prays that her husband be condemned to pay her $125 and she seeks a mortgage on his property to secure restitution of the funds.

Result: Partially granted.
