Pierre C. Richard, administrator of the estate of the late Elizabeth Mouton, the widow of Pierre Blanchard, represents that Thomas Mullett and James McCalop purchased six slaves at a public sale of the estate. They executed several promissory notes to Richard in payment for the purchase. Later, Mullett transferred his obligation on the notes to Pierre Blanchard. The notes have fallen due and have not been paid in full. Richard prays that the court will order Blanchard and McCalop to pay the debt or return the slaves as mortgage on the debt. Related documents reveal that Mullett had only acted as agent for Blanchard, and that the latter was one of the heirs of the late Elizabeth Mouton Blanchard.
