Bill of Sale. The clerk was unusually haphazard and inconsistent with spelling. The following quoted sections are as close as I can get to his spelling and punctuation. Jason Gardner sells to James Rhodes “one Negro woman and two childring by the name of hannah & ginnea & Selah the wench 25 years of age one Child Selah 2 years old Ginnea 4 years old for the sum of two hundred and ninety three Silver Dollars”. I will log Ginnea and Selah as Hannah’s children, but that’s not specifically stated in the document. No further information about any of their relationships. Document was signed February 20, 1797 and presented in Court May 1797.
