Abstract

Bill of Sale, by Constable. See NC.WIL.133.2. In that previous document, a Deed in Trust by deeply indebted A.S. Gray, it is mentioned that there are two judgments already against Gray, and that “a negro woman named Eliza and her child Emily” had been put forward to satisfy the judgments. In the present document, Constable Hiram Privett relates that he arranged the public sale of Eliza and Emily, and they were sold for $508 to A.B. Carmichael. No further information about Eliza and Emily and their relationships. The judgments against Gray were from Court actions February 25, 1858: one for $94.30 to Joshua Winkler, and four totaling $400 to Wesley Reynolds. The document was signed May 31, 1858, day of the sale, and registered June 1, 1858.
