Deed of Gift. William Warren gives to his daughter Sally Howard, wife of Larkin Howard, “the following named slaves (to wit) Suck, Sinda, Jane, Harrison”. William Warren warrants that the enslaved are “of sound mind and body and slaves for life”. No further information in the document about the enslaved’s ages or relationships. The enslaved are to remain with William Warren during his lifetime, and will transfer immediately to Sally Howard at his death. There is a PS: Alfred Warren is to pay Sally Howard $100, the difference in valuation between the slaves Alfred receives and those Sally receives, at William Warren’s death.
