Abstract

Certificate of freedom was recorded on 26 August 1817. "We the undersigned were chosen and appointed by the heirs of Samuel Hutchinson, deceased, to make distribution among them of the Negroes belonging to said estate and in proceeding in the discharge of that duty (the heirs all being present) they agreed that in consequence of the faithful services and good conduct of Ann Dodson the bearer hereof and also of her having raised several children for them, that she should be free and discharged from slavery ... henceforth [she is discharged] from all manner of service and servitude to them or their heirs."
