Abstract

Certificate of freedom was recorded [ date not given, but entry following was recorded on 12 October 1820]. J.P. Cocke states that for a consideration of$400 he sets free a Mulatto man, commonly known by the name of Linch [Lynch] Wormley, "who for several years past lived in the City of Washington." J.P. Cocke also relinquishes all right and claim to Linch. Signed on 4 March 1820 by James P. Cocke in the presence of Christian Cocke, Smith Cocke and Edward Coles. In the left margin of the handwritten Liber the following is written: "Identified by Col Brent and Cert given at his request 23 April 1829 - last [by] [Lynch] and duplicate given [by] L _ ding] Col [Brent] 17 [Jan] 1833"
