At the request of Jeremiah Williams the bill of sale was recorded on 5 October 1801. John Stewart of Washington Co., District of Columbia owes Jeremiah Williams of the District of Columbia $155.67 plus interest from 1 August last [1801]. Therefore, John Stewart sold to Jeremiah Williams a Negro man named William, a Negro woman named Sall, a Negro woman named Fanny, and a Negro woman named Rachel. If the debt is not paid before 20 days, Jeremiah Williams may sell the Negroes, or as many of them as necessary, to satisfy the debt.
