Bill of sale was recorded about 11 April 1801. Tunis [Tunes] Johnson, Senator of Fauquier Co., Virginia, for the love and natural affection for his daughter, Hanner Middleton, wife of James Middleton of the City of Washington in the District of Columbia, grants to his daughter "a Negro girl now in her possession, Milley and her increase forever to remain in her possession until the time of her natural death and then her increase to be equally divided among her [Hanner's] children or the survivors of them." [Compiler's note: Tunis Johnson could not write, but made his mark.]
