At the request of Bartleson Fox the certificate of slaves was recorded on 7 December 1801. Bartleson Fox states that he purchased a Negro woman named Mary age 24 years, and a child named Westley age six years, from William Herbert of Alexandria, Virginia in the year 1798 and moved to George Town in the District of Columbia on 1 November 1801.
