At the request of Negro Nick the manumission was recorded on 29 March 1802. Walter S. Chandler states that his Negro man Nicholas, who calls himself Nicholas Bradley, formerly the property of the late General Benjamin Brooks, is free "agreeably to the acts of the assembly of the state of Maryland."
